The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 to those who deny the truth. No power can hinder God 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient with gracious patience. 5 Indeed, they see it [as] distant, 6 but We see it near. 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 And no friend will ask concerning his friend. 10 though they shall be within sight of each other. The guilty one will gladly ransom himself from the torment of that Day by sacrificing his own children, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 the kinsmen who gave him shelter, 13 And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him. 14 No, in truth, it is a Furnace! 15 Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!- 16 Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right). 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Surely man is created of a hasty temperament 19 Fretful when evil befalleth him 20 but when good comes upon him, he is grudging 21 Except those who closely follow (the Book of God), 22 and continue at their prayers, 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom - 27 Verily the torment of their Lord is not a thing to feel secure from. 28 and guard their private parts 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 (but whoso seeks after more than that, they are the transgressors), 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 and who guard their prayers [from all worldly intent]. 34 They will be in gardens, honored. 35
