The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years: 4 So persevere with becoming patience. 5 they see it as being far off; 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 And the hills become as flakes of wool, 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 and of his spouse, and of his brother, 12 the kinsmen who gave him shelter, 13 And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 Flaying off the scalp-skin. 16 It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 Fretful when evil touches him; 20 and whenever good fortune comes to him, he grows niggardly. 21 Except those devoted to Salat (prayers) 22 and continue at their prayers, 23 and in whose possessions there is a due share, acknowledged [by them,] 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 And those who accept the truth of the judgment day 26 and fear the chastisement of their Lord – 27 For their Lord's displeasure is the opposite of Peace and Tranquillity;- 28 and those who guard their private parts, 29 Except with their wives and the (women slaves and captives) whom their right hands possess, for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers. 31 and who preserve their trusts and their covenant, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies. 33 And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- 34 These will dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
