The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 Upon the infidels -- which none would be able to repel -- 2 from God, the Lord of the Stairways. 3 On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. 4 Therefore, [O believers] behave with seemly patience. 5 Indeed, they see it [as] distant, 6 but We see it near. 7 The day when the sky will become as molten copper, 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 His wife and his brother, 12 his kinsmen who gave him refuge (from hardship) 13 And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him. 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 Flaying off the scalp-skin. 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Truly man was created very impatient;- 19 Fretful when evil touches him; 20 when good visits him, grudging, 21 Except those who establish prayer. 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 For the needy and those dispossessed, 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 Surely the chastisement of their Lord is (a thing) not to be felt secure of-- 28 who guard their privates 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers. 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 And those who protect their prayers. 34 These it is who in the gardens [of paradise] shall be honoured! 35
