The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 which will inevitably seize the disbelievers. 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 The angels and Jibreel, ascend towards Him – the punishment will befall on a day which spans fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believers] behave with seemly patience. 5 they see it as being far off; 6 And We see it nigh. 7 [It will take place] on a Day when the sky will be like molten lead, 8 And the mountains will be like flakes of wool, 9 no loyal friend shall question loyal friend, 10 though they may be in one another's sight: [for,] everyone who was lost in sin will on that Day but desire to ransom himself from suffering at the price of his own children, 11 And his spouse and his brother 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. 14 But never. It is pure white flame 15 that will strip off the scalp. 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ Human beings are created greedy. 19 If evil befalls him he is perturbed; 20 and whenever good fortune comes to him, he selfishly withholds it [from others]. 21 Except those who establish prayer. 22 Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); 23 And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 For their Lord's displeasure is the opposite of Peace and Tranquillity;- 28 And those who guard their private parts, 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 So those who desire more than this – it is they who are the transgressors. 31 (Those) who keep their trusts and their covenant, 32 And those who are firm upon their testimonies. 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
