The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A beseecher besought the visitation of chastisement, 1 The unbelievers-- there is none to avert it-- 2 (A punishment) from Allah, the Owner of the Elevated Passages. 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believer,] endure all adversity with goodly patience: 5 they see it as being far off; 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 The day when the sky will become as molten copper, 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 And no friend will ask concerning his friend. 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 his companion wife, his brother, 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 tearing away his skin! 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 And niggardly when good befalls him 21 Except those who establish prayer. 22 Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); 23 And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 and are fearful of the punishment of their Lord; 27 surely the chastisement of their Lord is a thing none can feel secure from – 28 And those who guard their private parts, 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors - 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies. 33 and who are constant in their prayers. 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
