The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
ONE who is minded to ask might ask about the suffering which [in the hereafter] is bound to befall 1 The unbelievers-- there is none to avert it-- 2 From Allah, Lord of the Ascending Stairways 3 The angels and Jibreel, ascend towards Him – the punishment will befall on a day which spans fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believer,] endure all adversity with goodly patience: 5 They surely take it to be far away, 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the heaven shall become like unto dregs of oil. 8 And the hills will be light as wool. 9 And friend shall not ask of friend 10 though they may be in one another's sight: [for,] everyone who was lost in sin will on that Day but desire to ransom himself from suffering at the price of his own children, 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 No, in truth, it is a Furnace! 15 A remover of exteriors. 16 It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. 18 ۞ Verily man is impatient by nature: 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 And when good touches him, withholding [of it], 21 save those that pray 22 Who are constant at their worship 23 those who give a due share of their wealth 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 And those who testify to the Day of Requital. 26 and fear the chastisement of their Lord – 27 Verily the torment of their Lord is not a thing to feel secure from. 28 And those who preserve their chastity 29 except from their wives and what their right hands own, for these they are not blameworthy. 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 and those who are upright in their testimonies; 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
