The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
A questioner asked of a chastisement about to fall 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, 2 from God, the Lord of the Stairways. 3 On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. 4 So be patient with gracious patience. 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 and the mountains shall be like puffs of wool. 9 No loyal friend will ask another loyal friend 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 And his wife and his brother, 12 His kindred who sheltered him, 13 And all those who are in the earth – then only if the redemption saves him! 14 No! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell], 15 Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!- 16 calling him who drew back and turned away, 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 and tight-fisted when good fortune visits him, 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 Who persevere in devotion, 23 And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. 24 for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 and are fearful of the punishment of their Lord; 27 Indeed the punishment of their Lord is not a thing to be unafraid of! 28 and guard their private parts 29 Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; 30 (but whoso seeks after more than that, they are the transgressors), 31 And those who keep their trusts and covenants; 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- 34 Those are highly honored in the Gardens. 35
