The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 To whom the angels and the soul take a day to ascend, whose length is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore do thou hold Patience,- a Patience of beautiful (contentment). 5 Indeed, they see it [as] distant, 6 But We see it very near. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 And the hills will be light as wool. 9 even intimate friends will not inquire about their friends, 10 They will be seeing them; the guilty will wish if only he could redeem himself from the punishment of that day, by offering his sons. 11 His wife and his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 No! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell], 15 Taking away (burning completely) the head skin! 16 Calling: "[O Kafir (O disbeliever in Allah, His angels, His Book, His Messengers, Day of Resurrection and in Al-Qadar (Divine Preordainments), O Mushrik (O polytheist, disbeliever in the Oneness of Allah)] (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from Faith) [picking and swallowing them up from that great gathering of mankind (on the Day of Resurrection) just as a bird picks up a food-grain from the earth with its beak and swallows it up] [Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 18, Page 289] 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 When evil toucheth him, he is bewailing. 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 except those that pray 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 those in whose wealth is a right known 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 And those who accept the truth of the judgment day 26 and who stand in dread of their Sustainer's chastisement 27 (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) 28 And those who preserve their chastity 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 And those who are upright in their testimonies, 33 and who are constant in their prayers. 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
