Noah (Nooh)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
We sent Noah forth to his people, saying, "Warn your people before there comes upon them a grievous punishment." 1 He said: O my people! Surely I am a plain warner to you: 2 "That ye should worship Allah, fear Him and obey me: 3 "He (Allah) will forgive you of your sins and respite you to an appointed term. Verily, the term of Allah when it comes, cannot be delayed, if you but knew." 4 'My Lord' said he, 'night and day I have called my nation, 5 but my call has only caused them to flee farther and farther away [from Thee]. 6 "And every time I have called to them, that Thou mightest forgive them, they have (only) thrust their fingers into their ears, covered themselves up with their garments, grown obstinate, and given themselves up to arrogance. 7 And lo! I have called unto them aloud, 8 Then surely I spoke to them in public and I spoke to them in secret: 9 And I have said: Seek pardon of your Lord. Lo! He was ever Forgiving. 10 He will send you abundant rain from the sky, 11 And give you increase in wealth and children and provide for you gardens and provide for you rivers. 12 "'What is the matter with you, that ye place not your hope for kindness and long-suffering in Allah,- 13 when He has created you in stages? 14 Do you not see how God has fashioned seven skies one above the other, 15 and has set up within them the moon as a light [reflected] and set up the sun as a [radiant] lamp? 16 God produced you from the earth like a vegetable growth; 17 He will make you return to it and then take you out of it again. 18 God has spread out the earth 19 So that you may walk upon its spacious paths.' 20
