Noah (Nooh)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
WE SENT NOAH to his people to warn them before the painful punishment came upon them. 1 He said: "O my People! I am to you a Warner, clear and open: 2 Worship Allah, and fear Him, and obey me. 3 so that He may forgive you some of your sins, and grant you respite until a term known [to Him alone]: but, behold, when the term appointed by God does come, it can never be put back - if you but knew it!" 4 'My Lord' said he, 'night and day I have called my nation, 5 But my invitation increased them not except in flight. 6 And lo! whenever I call unto them that Thou mayst pardon them they thrust their fingers in their ears and cover themselves with their garments and persist (in their refusal) and magnify themselves in pride. 7 Then surely I called to them aloud: 8 “Then I also told them publicly and also spoke to them softly in private.” 9 And I said: ask forgiveness of your Lord; verily He is ever Most Forgiving. 10 He will send you abundant 11 increase your wealth and sons; and grant you gardens and waterways. 12 What is the matter with you that you do not want the Greatness of Allah, 13 While He has created you in stages? 14 Have you not regarded how God created seven heavens one upon another, 15 and has placed the moon in them as a light, and the sun as a radiant lamp? 16 "'And God has caused you to grow out of the earth in [gradual] growth; and thereafter He will return you to it [in death]: 17 and He will later cause you to return to it and will then again bring you out of it. 18 God has made the earth for you a spreading, 19 That ye may thread the valley-ways thereof. 20
