Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle, 1 stand up to pray for much of the night. 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 or add to it a little; and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Verily, the rising by night (for Tahajjud prayer) is very hard and most potent and good for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (understanding) the Word (of Allah). 6 During the day, you are preoccupied with many activities. 7 And remember the Name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with a complete devotion. 8 [He is] the Lord of the East and the West; there is no deity except Him, so take Him as Disposer of [your] affairs. 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 And leave Me and the rejecters, the possessors of ease and plenty, and respite them a little. 11 We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, 12 And food which choketh (the partaker), and a painful doom 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 Verily, We have sent to you (O men) a Messenger (Muhammad SAW) to be a witness over you, as We did send a Messenger [Musa (Moses)] to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 Then how can you avoid the punishment, if you disbelieve, on a Day that will make the children grey-headed (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)? 17 The very heaven being then rent asunder. His promise is to be fulfilled. 18 Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
