Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who have wrapped up in your garments! 1 Stay up the night long save a little 2 half of it, or reduce it a little; 3 Or add to it, and recite the Quran as it ought to be recited. 4 For we shall charge thee with a word of weight. 5 Verily, the rising by night (for Tahajjud prayer) is very hard and most potent and good for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (understanding) the Word (of Allah). 6 whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 He is the only Lord, so choose Him as your guardian. 9 And patiently endure upon what the disbelievers say, and leave them for good. 10 And leave Me (alone to deal with) those in possession of the good things of life, who (yet) deny the Truth; and bear with them for a little while. 11 Verily We shall have fetters with Us, and a roaring furnace, 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment, 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 We have sent an Apostle to you as a witness against you, as We had sent an apostle to the Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a ruinous seizure. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 The heaven will split asunder with its grief; the promise of Allah will surely occur. 18 This is indeed an advice; so whoever wishes may take the path towards his Lord. 19
