In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle, 1 worship (God) for a few hours at night. 2 It may be half the night or a little less than that 3 or add a little), and chant the Koran very distinctly; 4 We are about to cast upon you a weighty Word. 5 Prayer at night leaves the strongest impression on one's soul and the words spoken are more consistent. 6 Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. 7 And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He; so take Him for a Guardian. 9 Bear patiently with what they say, and ignore them politely. 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 We have heavy fetters and a blazing Fire in store for them; 12 And food that will stick in the throat, and painful torment 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 We have sent a messenger who is a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharoah before you. 15 But Pharoah rebelled against the messenger, so We seized him with a strong, crushing grip. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 The heaven shall rend asunder thereby; His promise is ever brought to fulfillment. 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
