Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou folded in garments! 1 stand up to pray for much of the night. 2 half the night, or a little less 3 and recite the Quran in a distinct tone; 4 Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.). 5 Surely getting up at night is the best means of subduing the self and is more suitable for uprightness in speech. 6 You have by day prolonged occupations. 7 But [whether by night or by day,] remember thy Sustainer's name, and devote thyself unto Him with utter devotion. 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He; so take Him for a Guardian. 9 And bear with patience what they utter, and part from them with a fair leave-taking. 10 Leave to Me those who belie, those who lead a life of pleasure, and bear with them yet a little while. 11 We have prepared for them fetters, flaming fire, 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment - 13 On the Day when the earth with all its mountains quake and the mountains become heaps of shifting sand. 14 We have sent an Apostle to you as a witness against you, as We had sent an apostle to the Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment. 16 Then how, if ye disbelieve, will ye protect yourselves upon the day which will turn children grey, 17 Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished. 18 Verily this is an Admonition: therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) path to his Lord! 19
