O you (Prophet Muhammad) wrapped, 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 It may be half the night or a little less than that 3 Or add to it, and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation. 4 For we shall charge thee with a word of weight. 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 You are indeed much occupied during the day with the affairs of the world. 7 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion - 8 He is the only Lord, so choose Him as your guardian. 9 And bear thou patiently what they say, and forsake them graciously. 10 And leave Me alone [to deal] with those who give the lie to the truth - those who enjoy the blessings of life [without any thought of God] - and bear thou with them for a little while: 11 We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, 12 and food that chokes, and grievous suffering 13 On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down. 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh rebelled against the messenger, whereupon We seized him with no gentle grip. 16 How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, 17 The heaven will split asunder with its grief; the promise of Allah will surely occur. 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
