In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O YOU ENWRAPPED in the cloak (of Prophethood), 1 Stand up for worship during the night, except for some part of it. 2 A half of it or a little less 3 Or a little more, and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 Indeed, the hours of the night are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for words. 6 You have by day prolonged occupations [with Dawah work]. 7 But recite the name of your Lord withdrawing yourself from everything, devoting yourself exclusively to Him. 8 The Sustainer of the east and the west [is He]: there is no deity save Him: hence, ascribe to Him alone the power to determine thy fate, 9 Bear patiently with what they say, and ignore them politely. 10 And leave them to Me – these wealthy deniers – and give them some respite. 11 Verily, with Us are fetters (to bind them), and a raging Fire. 12 And food that chokes, and a painful punishment. 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 BEHOLD, [O men,] We have sent unto you an apostle who shall bear witness to the truth before you, even as We sent an apostle unto Pharaoh: 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a ruinous seizure. 16 So how will you save yourselves, if you disbelieve, on a day that will turn children old? 17 The heaven shall rend asunder thereby; His promise is ever brought to fulfillment. 18 Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
