In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you who are wrapped up in your mantle, 1 Keep watch all the night except some, 2 For half the night, or reduce some from it. 3 Or add to it, and recite the Quran as it ought to be recited. 4 Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.). 5 Indeed, the hours of the night are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for words. 6 Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 The Sustainer of the east and the west [is He]: there is no deity save Him: hence, ascribe to Him alone the power to determine thy fate, 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 Leave those to Me who deny, the lovers of ease and comfort; and bear with them for a while. 11 Indeed, with Us [for them] are shackles and burning fire 12 And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. 13 On the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains shall become (as) heaps of sand let loose. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger. 15 Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 Then how shall ye, if ye deny (Allah), guard yourselves against a Day that will make children hoary-headed?- 17 The heaven will split asunder with its grief; the promise of Allah will surely occur. 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
