In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O thou wrapped up in thy raiment! 1 Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,- 2 half of it, or reduce it a little; 3 or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran. 4 For we shall charge thee with a word of weight. 5 surely the first part of the night is heavier in tread, more upright in speech, 6 Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the east and the west, there is no deity but Him, so take Him as your Guardian. 9 And patiently endure upon what the disbelievers say, and leave them for good. 10 Leave it to Me to deal with the affluent ones who give the lie (to the Truth), and bear with them for a while. 11 We have heavy fetters and a blazing Fire in store for them; 12 And a Food that chokes, and a Penalty Grievous. 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 Surely We have sent unto you a Messenger as a witness over you, even as We sent to Pharaoh a Messenger, 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment. 16 How then, if ye disbelieve, shall ye escape, on a Day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished. 18 Verily this is a reminder. So let him who desires take the way to his Lord. 19
