In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enwrapped in thy robes, 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 It may be half the night or a little less than that 3 Or add to it, and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation. 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Prayer at night leaves the strongest impression on one's soul and the words spoken are more consistent. 6 Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god except Him. Take Him for your Guardian. 9 And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. 10 Leave to Me those who belie, those who lead a life of pleasure, and bear with them yet a little while. 11 We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment - 13 On the Day when the earth with all its mountains quake and the mountains become heaps of shifting sand. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger. 15 But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 The very heaven being then rent asunder. His promise is to be fulfilled. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
