Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O YOU ENWRAPPED in the cloak (of Prophethood), 1 Keep watch all the night except some, 2 Half of it - or subtract from it a little 3 Or add to it, and recite the Quran as it ought to be recited. 4 For we shall charge thee with a word of weight. 5 Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise). 6 Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. 7 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion - 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He; so take Him for a Guardian. 9 Bear patiently with what they say, and ignore them politely. 10 Leave it to Me to deal with the affluent ones who give the lie (to the Truth), and bear with them for a while. 11 We have heavy fetters and a blazing Fire in store for them; 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment, 13 on the Day when the earth and the mountains will be convulsed and the mountains will [crumble and] become like a sand-dune on the move! 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 In response Firaun disobeyed the Noble Messenger, so We seized him with a severe seizure. 16 If you, disbelieve, how will you be able to protect yourselves from the hardships of the day which would even turn children grey-headed? 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
