In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 Stand up for worship during the night, except for some part of it. 2 A half of it or a little less 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 Behold, We shall cast upon you a Weighty Word. 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties: 7 And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. 8 Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. 9 Bear patiently with what they say and with a fine abandonment forsake them. 10 Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile. 11 We have prepared for them fetters, flaming fire, 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment - 13 On the day when the earth and the hills rock, and the hills become a heap of running sand. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 How, then, will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve, on the day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 on which the heaven will split apart, and His promise is done. 18 Surely this is a reminder, then let him, who will take the way to his Lord. 19
