In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O you (Prophet Muhammad) wrapped, 1 Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,- 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 and recite the Quran in a distinct tone; 4 For We are about to send down to you a message of considerable gravity. 5 [and,] verily, the hours of night impress the mind most strongly and speak with the clearest voice, 6 surely in the day thou hast long business. 7 But keep in remembrance the name of thy Lord and devote thyself to Him whole-heartedly. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 And patiently endure upon what the disbelievers say, and leave them for good. 10 And leave Me alone [to deal] with those who give the lie to the truth - those who enjoy the blessings of life [without any thought of God] - and bear thou with them for a little while: 11 Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire, 12 and food that chokes, and a painful chastisement, 13 On the day when the earth and the hills rock, and the hills become a heap of running sand. 14 BEHOLD, [O men,] We have sent unto you an apostle who shall bear witness to the truth before you, even as We sent an apostle unto Pharaoh: 15 But Fir'aun (Pharaoh) disobeyed the Messenger [Musa (Moses)], so We seized him with a severe punishment. 16 So how will you save yourselves, if you disbelieve, on a day that will turn children old? 17 Whereon the heaven will be cleft asunder? His Promise is certainly to be accomplished. 18 Verily this is a reminder. So let him who desires take the way to his Lord. 19
