Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who have wrapped up in your garments! 1 Rise to pray in the night except a little, 2 Half of it,- or a little less, 3 or add to it [at will]; and [during that time] recite the Qur'an calmly and distinctly, with thy mind attuned to its meaning. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon you a Weighty Word. 5 Indeed, the hours of the night are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for words. 6 During the day, you are preoccupied with many activities. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 The Sustainer of the east and the west [is He]: there is no deity save Him: hence, ascribe to Him alone the power to determine thy fate, 9 And bear thou patiently what they say, and forsake them graciously. 10 Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile. 11 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, 12 And food that chokes, and a painful punishment. 13 On the day when the earth and the hills rock, and the hills become a heap of running sand. 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 However, the Pharaoh disobeyed the Messenger and We seized him with a severe retribution. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished. 18 Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
