O thou wrapped up in thy raiment! 1 rise (to pray) the night except a little; 2 half the night, or a little less 3 Or increase thereto. And intone the Qur'an with measured intonations. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 You have by day prolonged occupations. 7 And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. 8 The Lord of the East and the West-- there is no god but He-- therefore take Him for a protector. 9 And be patient (O Muhammad SAW) with what they say, and keep away from them in a good way. 10 And leave them to Me – these wealthy deniers – and give them some respite. 11 for, behold, heavy fetters [await them] with Us, and a blazing fire, 12 and a food that chokes, and a grievous chastisement. 13 On a day when the earth and the mountains will tremble, and the mountains turn into dunes of flowing sand. 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. 16 If you persist in disbelieving, how will you guard yourself against the (woe of the) Day that will turn children grey-haired, 17 Whereby heaven shall be split, and its promise shall be performed. 18 This is indeed an advice; so whoever wishes may take the path towards his Lord. 19
