Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up in thy raiment! 1 Keep awake [in prayer] at night, all but a small part 2 Half of it, or lessen it a little, 3 or add to it a little; and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 For we shall charge thee with a word of weight. 5 Surely in the watches of the night the soul is most receptive and words more telling. 6 Verily there is for thee by day occupation prolonged. 7 And remember the Name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with a complete devotion. 8 (He Alone is) the Lord of the east and the west, La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). So take Him Alone as Wakil (Disposer of your affairs). 9 Bear with patience what they say, and gracefully come away from them. 10 Leave those to Me who deny, the lovers of ease and comfort; and bear with them for a while. 11 Verily with Us are heavy fetters and Scorch. 12 food which chokes (them), and a painful torment. 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But the Pharaoh disobeyed the apostle; so We seized him with a grievous punishment. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 Verily, this is an admonition, therefore whosoever will, let him take a Path to His Lord! 19
