The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 purify your garments; 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
