The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 it will be a hard day 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 May he be condemned! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
