The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 and defilement flee! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he thought; 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
