The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 arise and warn, 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And your garments purify! 4 And all defilement shun! 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and sons standing before him, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 Scorching the skin. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
