The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he looked, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
