The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 thy robes purify 4 stay away from sins 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
