The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 It scorches people's skin 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
