The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 arise and warn, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And your garments purify! 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he looked round; 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
