The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 purify your garments; 4 shun uncleanness; 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 and children living in his presence, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
