The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And stay away from idols. 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
