The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 and flee from the statues! 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he looked round; 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
