The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Rise up and warn! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 purify your garments; 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
