The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 arise and give warning! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And your garments purify! 4 And all defilement shun! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 and children living in his presence, 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 Burning the skins! 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
