The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O the Cloaked One! (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) 1 Arise and warn! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 and defilement flee! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and children living in his presence, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he looked round; 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 Burning the skins! 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
