The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 arise and warn, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 Pollution shun! 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
