The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn, 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 stay away from sins 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
