The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
