The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And your garments purify! 4 and defilement flee! 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
