The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
