The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 and who still desires more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
