The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 arise and give warning! 2 And your Lord glorify 3 thy robes purify 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
