The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 arise, and warn! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 and purify your robes, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 He planned and plotted. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
