The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 And your garments purify! 4 And pollution shun. 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 and children living in his presence, 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
