The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And all defilement shun! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then looked he, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
