The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 thy robes purify 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
